Phil,

If it were to draw one amp it dissipates 12 watts, and would get bloody
hot, so just stick in a 1 amp fuse, that should be plenty I would only
expect it to draw 20mA or so.

Don't ask me what wire though - surely you got a wiring diagram with it.
