Rick and Pam,
Check with your local EAA chapter first before joining the national
organization, if you are planning to join the local chapter (a very good idea
if you are building). The local chapter gets a rebate from national for signing
on new members. National dues are $40 per year and local dues run from $12 to
$20 per year, depending on the chapter.
Local chapters are a great resource for parts and help. In my case, I was
able to buy a KR-2 already in the boat stage with the wing spars finished as
well( with excellent workmanship), all metal brackets fabricated, canopy,
wheels and gear with hydraulic disc brakes and master cylinders, wing attach
fittings( just these are $425 in the new RR catalog), etc for just $300. A
GREAT DEAL! And one of my chapter members has already been in on the
construction of 2 KR's and has agreed to help me out with mine. You just can't
beat a set up like this! Ken Henderson, President EAA Chapter 251, Alamogordo,
NM.
