Don and netters My only complaint about the page in the manual is that it references off the spinner. The spinner can be changed and will change with different props if the spinner does not fit etc...
What I recommend is take the page in the manual, and substitute the firewall for the spinner. The spinner is used because all your numbers are positive, since most people have a hard time with negative numbers ( long time from algebra in school I guess). Piper does the same thing. Cessna uses the firewall. The nice thing about the firewall as the Datum line is that in most cases it will not move or change. I made a post several years ago about the basic formula for W&B: Set a table: column 1 weights; column 2 arm (distance from datum line); column 3 moment. Weight the plane at each wheel, and measure the inches from the firewall. Plug them into the table and multiply to get the moments. You will now notice that you can total the weights, and the moments. Then divide the moment total by the weight total and you will have the CG Arm location of those weights. If your fuel tank(s) is empty, and engine installed ready to run, and otherwise ready to fly, this is your empty weight as agreed upon by most manufacturers (some use the engine dry, others engine wet with oil etc...). Good luck and have fun.... Mine is also Trigear and retractable.
