Joe Flechtner’s KR2
I recently purchased a KR2 that was built by Joe Flechtner in 1981 in
Anchorage, Alaska. He flew it up to 2001 and put a minimum hours of 240 hours.
Joe passed away in Nevada and there is very little about him and his beautiful
aircraft. The Log Book shows that Joe added wing tanks for Oshkosh on 7/15/84
(max capacity 50 gallons, 300 lbs), but it is vague if he flew from Anchorage
to Oshkosh which I think would have made great KR2 news. Searching the KR2
Archives I could not find anything about this. Does anyone in the KR2
community know if this trip was completed and if this was an accomplishment
especially if this was in one flight? We are going back more than 20 years
which is a long time.
I am a new member to KR net and my KR2 at this time is a project since
it has a rebuilt RevMaster 2000D, with a new Alternator, Starter, and RevFlow
Carburetor and modification has to be made to the cowling for the RevFlow and
to cut it in half since it is a one piece unit. A new throttle cable, mixture
cable and carburetor heat cable needs reinstallation for the new carburetor and
a new white paint job to cut down on outside temperature. As soon as my sauna
bath garage cools down (96 deg F), I will start work.
