First thing you should do is call the hotline number on the back of your AOPA card and ask to speak to one of their medical certification experts. They answer those questions all day long and can help you better than anybody else.
If you are not already an AOPA member then calling the number should be the second thing you do. For those of you that have not called AOPA for help and advice before give them a call the next time you have a question. Aside from being able to answer nearly anything they even have booklets they will send you free on a bunch of different subjects. I have gotten them on business use of airplanes, aircraft partnerships, taxes and aircraft use, and a variety of other subjects. About 5 years ago I discovered I had Diabetes type 2. This was after I had discontinued my flight training. I have 25 hours. I am going to start training again. Where will I stand with my medical? I don't take medication at all, and control my desease with diet and exercise. When I go in for my 3rd class med, what do I say on the application as far as the Diabetes is concerned? I am concerned that some yahoo Doctor will exclude me even though I have no real problems, now that I watch my diet.
