Jim & friends,
I am coming along well on getting N26LT back to flying. This is a
plane that was built by E. Levoyd Troyer in Middlebury, Indiana, completed
1984, flown 300 hrs until 1990, and parked since then. We (five co-owners)
have the engine almost ready to go, changed to Diehl nosegear, and we're
adding avionics this week. Biggest undecided yet is choice of a carb to
replace the POSA, although I guess there is a chance that in my impatience I
will fly it with the POSA first. I hope to be taxi-testing within a month
or two, but don't spread that around, we know how projections of completion
come back to bite us.
I met you at the Great Plains booth at Oshkosh two or three years
ago. I had been on the KR net for a while before that, and recognized your
name as the man who had offered to give a number of builders some
familiarization time when they were about ready to fly their projects. I
fell in with a brother-in-law more interested in rivets than resin, and we
spent some time in the company of Sonex flyers before we got the chance at
this KR2, so here I am, back with my first love. Even though there are KR
2s in Indiana, I guess I somehow always imagined that at about this point in
my process I would call you and say, "Jim, can you give another new KR2
pilot a lesson on how gentle to be with that stick?"
I won't be at Oshkosh this year, I think my co-conspirator
brother-in-law may be there. I am planning on flying N26LT to the gathering
at the end of September. But Jim, how about giving another KR2 pilot a
lesson on how gentle to be with that stick? And after that, happy sailing!

How about this for a rumor or NOT.....

After many years of KR's I have made the decision to move to another part of
my life. As many on this net know, I have loved the KR and have hosted or
helped with numerous KR Gatherings. As my life goes, I have decided to move
on to another phase of my life. I have already resigned from my job and will
be going Cruising on my sailboat in November of this year. I plan on selling
my plane to Steve Bennett with the option of purchasing it back when we
finish our sailing adventure which may take as long as 6 to 10 years. (If
you are interested in his KR 1 1/2 you have the first notice that his will
be for sale.) This isn't a spoof, it is real. I thought long and hard about
donating my plane to a museum to limit my liability but I figured Steve
would fly it more conservatively than I do so he is the perfect person to
keep it in shape and upgrade it and of course take care of it. This has been
an interesting decision but I have to tell you that I have a belief... If
you aren't living on the edge you are really taking up too much space. I am
simply moving on to another edge. Will I be at this years Gathering, Yes.
Will I be at Oshkosh 2007? I can't commit but Steve has already said that if
I want to and I'm current, I can fly my plane up to Oshkosh. I may actually
make it without the plane since I will be retiring early and that means more
limited resources. Regardless, I still think the motto of 35 for the 35th
still applies to Oshkosh in 2007.

As for my plans, my last day to actually work will be June 23rd and I will
still be employed until early December when my accumulated vacation runs
out. You will be able to follow my adventures on www.jfaughn.com once I
change the website to be one of Cruising. (Probably July or later in the
summer) We plan on visiting the entire east coast, Bahamas, Caribbean,
Venezuela, and ultimately going through the Panama Canal to the Pacific
moving to Australia and New Zealand. (Assuming my wife adapts to MANY days
at sea for crossings) I could tell you about how we would go back but that
would take too much space on this email.

I have loved the experience with the people who make up the KR community.
Thank you for your support and I have been proud of the fact that KR's have
reached a new level which now exceed the standard I was proud to set in 1992
when I first flew in to a KR Gathering. I believe the result is a better
airplane and more importantly a safer aircraft.

Thanks for all of your support over the years.
