Ethel Alcohol is a good solvent, but not a super solvent, perhaps not as good a solvent as gasolene itself. I was a bio major in college, with a chem minor... just 8 hours worth of p chem short of a major. Organic Chemistry is wonderful stuff.
My 50 cent opinion is that most of the anti alcohol /gaso-hol stuff comes from bad science: the $ public relations department of oil companies, with colaboration / the "wink" from other companies. Growing up as an Iowa Corn Farmer, Since 1979, I have run only the ethanol 10% / 90% gas blend. Not once have I ever had an engine quit, and leave me a foot on the road... until last Saturday, and that was a broken timing belt. Cars that I bought brand new... I ran my Ford Courier 240,000 miles plus ... and my Ford Escort over 200 K.. and a Jeep Cherokee, and more than a dozen n other high milage cars and trucks. No o-rings failed.
