This is likely to be the first of many questions posted in the months/years ahead...
I assume the KR2 project (boat stage, spars built) I just bought is stock KR2. Ie, no extended fuse, stock spars, etc. Were I starting from scratch I would be building a KR2S, and would go with the 18% AS5048 airfoil, and the reduced incidence angles as suggested by Mark L., and others. But, I am not starting from scratch, and will need to determine what modifications I should, and can reasonably make to improve stability. If I have understood Mark's ideas correctly, it sounds like the 16% AS5046 is the way to go with the wings. I'd like to make the incidence modification too. From photos of the project I've seen so far, it will require finding a creative way to modify the rear spar height. Likewise, will need to figure out how to adjust the horizontal stabilizer. Anyone who has experience or ideas regarding these retrofitting issues your insights will be greatly appreciated. Does it also make sense to increase the span of the h.s. somewhat? Fortunately, there remain a number of ways to adust the c.g. so I will be sure to make decisions aimed at keeping it within the current recommended envelope. Your posts I have been reading for the past couple months, as well as the archives have been very helpful at providing me with a sense of the scope of this project, and brought many issues to consider and decisions to make to my attention. Gear configurations, BRS or not, engine issues, etc. all will have to be well thought out. I am very thankful this forum exists... I will appear as quite a neophyte to all of you all in many ways. But I enjoy learning, and am looking forward to the challange. Thanks being here. Tony
