Hi Ron, Yes, The extra material is needed to provide enough material around the attachment bolts at the upper and lower spar caps. I am using the taller airfoil and I also have the TET gear leg brackets that are taller to match the spar height. Even though the TET brackets are taller and the bolts fall in the proper location on the spar caps,, I reinforced the bracket area to provide a litle extra margin of safety.
