My one rule, and one I paid heavily for when I did not heed it, was to

I reckon it's all about an instinctive urge to protect one's prop and thus a
reluctance to gut push that stick forward which is necessary to kill the
lift. I am as guilty of this as anyone. Gotta get over it through practice
:-)
