The military (and I assume commercial jets) have had Infrared flame detectors since the 60's. Main problem is that they run on 28 VDC. (see http://www2.kiddeaerospace.com/product.htm ) There are small IR detector IC's available for under $5.00, but you would have to build a power circuit since most run on 1.5 to 5 VDC.
