The options are many, but knowing it meets the same strength standard is
another issue ENTIRELY.  Someone recommended sassafras, and I have some
experience with it.  But meeting the many criteria is another issue.

I've built a three planes, and they haven't broken yet.  That doesn't
mean they were as light as they could be or that they meet the design
criteria.

Many builders have substituted other woods, and they were maybe just
lucky.
I use CERTIFIED SPRUCE for critical areas.  Like spars.  You cannot find
wood of that quality unless you have an "in" with someone in the
business, and you're not likely to find it at a "lumber yard".
