Phillip, I'll probably be judged a pi$$ poor pilot with my hair on fire but 
in the Bonanza, I routinely ran the aft tank dry.  Also ran the wing tank 
(singular) dry on occasion.  In the Bonanza excess fuel was always pumped 
back into the left tank so I never ran that one dry.  Started everytime 
without hesitation..........................as a side note, I always knew 
where the nearest airports were when it was about to happen:-)
