Most alternators do not have a regulator built in, but some do. If you have just one wire coming out of the alternator it has a regulator in it. If you have more than one wire it does not have a regulator built in. What you use for a regulator depends on the alternator. If you can post a few pictures of it that would help to identify what you need.
You should have a primer on any carb that does not have a choke and if you do have a choke I recommend removing it and adding a primer also. Best to put the primer in the intakes just before the cylinders. Sometimes there is just one in the manifold right where the carb bolts on. That setup is really only good with a carb mounted on the top of the engine. You can see how I did it on my last KR at www.engalt.com/kr2.htm under the fuel system page. There are some pictures on the engine page showing it also and some of the regulator that is used with the Diehl alternator. You can use whatever you want, but remember that a quality primer is a good thing to have when you have a fuel line going into the cockpit. Some people keep it all on the firewall side with a fuel solenoid for the prime and an electric pump. Use the primer fittings that are made for this purpose. They have a small hole in them to spray and atomize the fuel and they are very inexpensive. HI Gang My Kr 1835vw engine came with an alternator. Do alternators all have regulators built in or do I need to locate one? If I need to find one what am I asking for and from where? Do I need a primer with side flow carburetor? Can I use a primer from something other then an aircraft suppliers? Where should the primer line go to in the intake manifold? I'm assuming near the cylinder intake? Any Subaru guys out there? Can some one tell me what the original transmission flange bolt (stud) thread size is ? The location where a redrive would mount. I'm guessing 10mm and tried a 10x1.25 but that didn't seem right? I'm just wishing to put in on a engine stand for now. Big dreams in the future.
