Thanks for the reality check Dan. Mark and others all have made
valid statements in regards to selling practices. No person is infallible
and we all make mistakes. Jim Irwin is a smart man as proven by the size of
Aircraft Spruce. One doesn't build a company that size by making stupid
decisions but one has to admit that the statement that started the current
flame war was precariously close to the line of stupidity. Everything Jim
said was in fact true BUT to say what he did on this an open forum did
nothing but hurt his future business.
Previously I stated that little faux pas regarding the airspeed
indicator and upon reflection and doing the math it was easy to see that the
add was definitely a misprint and shame on me for not catching it before the
purchase. That is the very reason I haven't filed a complaint with Jim for
he cannot be held accountable for a typing error by one of his employees or
my stupidity for not seeing the obvious error. That being said I'll continue
to deal with AS&S but will keep a close eye on what I order in future. Hell
I'd even go so far as to trade Jim my classic Mercury panel truck for one of
them Blue Mountain glass cockpit things even though the truck is worth well
over the cost of the avionics. The reason? Simple, Jim seems to have a
sincere desire to do the right thing by his customers and also has a deep
appreciation for things of beauty.
