Sorry to chip in here, but I'm interested in your comment below to "square 
the sides".  Do you mean by this that you'd have the sides of the fuselage 
perpendicular?  If so, I can see the benefit of (1) easier construction of 
the boat (2) more spcious cockpit, but what about the aesthetic/aerodynamic 
effects of this wider frontal area?  Can the wider floor plan be 
successfully tapered forwards to produce a pleasing shape?  Seems to me 
this might look a little 'clunky'.  Interested in hearing your views on 
this, and in hearing the views on any others who have tried this...
