But boys think harder :-). All I am doing by raising the tail with the aircraft stationary on the ground is altering the angle made between the pivot stalk and the horizontal plane of the compass ring. I just can't see why this would rotate the compass and further why it does not return to the original position once the lift is stopped...and now the stumper...why doesn't it happen with the compass in my friend's Tiger Moth?
Errrr....an analogy might help..... A frisbee balanced horizontally on the top of my finger doesn't care or know at what angle my forearm is....it remains horizontal. Even if the frisbee is weighted on one side and the pivot point offset to maintain the horizontal plane, the same thing applies. What am I missing here?? This is becoming one of life's mysteries..... like why does a mirror invert text in a book left to right but not bottom line to top line.....I hate when I wax lyrical other than on Fridays.
