Mark, I also have PhotoShop but find IrfanView much easier to use for the purpose stated.
All you have to do is, open your folder with the pics in it, drag one of the pics onto your IrfanView icon on your desktop, click on File, Batch Conversion/rename. From there it is a piece of cake.
