I think you have a good plan. Go for it; don't deal with every
petty person who cannot find a way to unsub-anything.

Keep on with the Rustoleum and GO FLY.

Subject: KR> list problems

KRnetHeads,

Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement. Maybe I
over-reacted
regarding switching list servers. The list started "eating" about
one out
of three or four posts, and this went on for weeks until I pitched
enough of
a fit to get it fixed. It turns out it was attributed to Jurgen
signing up
on the list, and the umlauts in his name led to messages
disappearing.
Sounds flaky to me! Then somebody unsubscribed and the whole
subscriber
list got unsubscribed along with them due to a bug, which was bad
enough,
but they were able to resubscribe everybody, but the most recent
backup of
the subscriber settings was from FOUR months ago, so people who
had their
mail on "hold" or had switched to the digest or whatever, started
emailing
me that something was screwed up, and I just got bent out of shape
over it
all, especially when I'm accused of throwing somebody off because
I must not
have liked something they said yesterday.

One more nagging thing that they've NEVER been able to fix is
preventing ALL
attachments. The only way I've been able to handle attachments is
with a
10k size limit. They've given it one more try though, so maybe
even that's
fixed now. But if you guys don't mind this thing acting up every
now and
then, and don't blame it on me, I'll stick with it. Of that list
that Ameet
posted, Mailman will do the first 9, and I'm using every one of
them. The
rest of the list I can live without, and I hate advertising and
pop-ups more
than just about anybody on the planet (Google Toolbar fixed that
one
though), not to mention spam.

But one thing is going to change. Not a day goes by that I don't
get 2 or 3
complaints or administrator messages that a message is being held
for my
"approval" that contains attachments, or is absolutely huge
because the
entire digest is quoted in it, and I'm getting tired of messing
with them.
I used to explain to the folks that you can't send attachments,
and that
there is a size limit to keep people from quoting the entire
digest in their
replies, etc, etc. I'm tired of wasting my time on that stuff
when it
clearly states these rules in the "Welcome to KRnet" message.

And then there are all those folks who are convinced that I've
suddenly
"locked" them out of the list, but the reality is that they
changed email
addresses and forgot to subscribe under their new address. And
there are
those who send their messages in HTML format with smiley faces,
nice
backgrounds, and all sorts of other graphics attached to each
message, but
wonder why their messages are too big to make it through the size
filter,
despite getting an administrative message that explains that their
message
is too big. And then there are the endless "unscrebe me" messages
posted to
the list, that defy all explanation. These kinds of problems are
going to
go unanswered (if I stay in the mood I'm in right now)...they'll
have to
figure it out themselves. I'm simply too selfish with my time to
deal with
this stuff while my airplane sits waiting on me to finish it.

I guess I'm just ventilating again. Just call me "drama queen".
I'm going
back to work...
