No, you shouldn't. Everybody has their own way of doing things and we can all benefit from someone's knowledge. However, for me, you are too late and I have issues to deal with that influenced my decision to do it this way.
Normally, I would do it exactly the way you describe. Finished painting this morning, now have to go remove the tapes. I think that I got a little orange peel, so I had to start humming again.
