Simple, make a 12 to 1 scarf joint, the added weight is in grams and the strength is (if done correctly) as strong as it was before. I have done several in spar webs and spar caps without a single failure. Get out the 43.13b - Acceptable methods and practices and I believe it is in Chapter 1 somewhere, that is the wood section and it explains it pretty well. It is very easy to do and will definitely take care of your problem.
