Hi All, In Gavin's post "Up until now I've been using Epiglass Everdure for a timber sealer, this needs several coats to fully seal the timber which is very time consuming."
20+ years ago, when I was building boats, I used an epoxy, from Araldite call K99 timber impregnation resin, which was for use in bonding to timber and sealing timber. It was thinner than water and really soaked in to the timber, increasing the strength and providing a good bond. It wets down glass very easy. The result was also a very light boat. The down side is it's very runny, but peel ply should solve that problem (I'd never used peel ply till my KR). If the boat was damaged (normally from collision) the bonding to the timber was very easy, clean it, light sand and fix it. I'm told there is still "timber impregnation resin" available today. I would use this to seal all my timber, but as I bought my KR2 complete, I have to live with what's there. (until I build a KR2S, don't tell my wife :-) For those interested I was building light, high performance canoes, sailing boats and speed boats. (I still have my vacuum pump equipment for vacuum moulding though it hasn't been used in 10+ years) Regards Barry Kruyssen Cairns, Australia k...@bigpond.com AUF Registered 19-3873 http://users.tpg.com.au/barryk/kr2.htm
