I really can't take credit for that one. That was Dr. Dean's "product". We probably got the idea from Troy Petteway's plane, which he had already "crash tested". Broke the aluminum leg, but left the 4130 mount in fine shape. Dean did an amazing amount of research on the subject, including a stress analysis of the 3M Scotchply vs aluminum. I believe he concluded that the 3M stuff had some superior damping qualities over aluminum, which may be why Dan chose it as the gear leg material for his gear setups.
