Ray, What I did is follow the recommendations that were made by other builders to widen the fuselage 4-6" and I even widened the firewall 2". This more or less precludes you from using any prefabricated parts for cowling, canopy, etc. I cut out the widened fuselage contour I wanted from brown wrapping paper and stapled it to my work table. Then I put the clamping blocks around the edges of the pattern as described in the plans which made the sides conform to the fuselage shape I wanted....this can be seen in the few photos I put on my web site under "fuselage".
