My question is, why not just build it according to plans rather than try
raining body parts and debris all over the countryside? That's why we have
plans: To build from.

Netters,
It's been a long time since I built and I do not have a set of plans any
more but I seem to remember the original design was for the boat frame to be
skinned with 1/8" aircraft plywood and then covered with a thin layer of
fiberglass cloth and Ken thought this would make the strongest structure
considering all the compression and tinsel pressures from the engine. As
long as I knew him (from 1970 to his death) he never had an engine fall off
so he must have been right.
