Hello Albert

Prior to the introduction of "experimental" in Australia, the Civil Aviation
Authority placed a 500kg gross limit on the KR2 under the old 101.28
"amateur built" category and limited CoG to the forward half of the envelope
(8-12 inches rear of leading edge at wing root). This made it very difficult
to carry two 77kg people and remain legal.

Under "experimental" none of this applies legally and you can rewrite the
flight manual......nonetheless you would be wise to abide by the above. The
KR2 is not really a 2 person aircraft if you want to carry any more fuel
than about an hours fuel unless the people are very light. I
think 65 hp would be really struggling at 500kg gross. Most fly between 80
(VW) and 110 (Corvair/Continental).

You should check which category the bird is registered in before flying to
ensure what you decide to do is legal.

It is not really an aircraft for ab initio training either due to it's
performance and sensitive handling. Not that's it's more difficult per say
but that it's incredibly different. I have 800 hours including time in
Tigers and Decathlons and still find the KR2 to be a handful.

Email me offline to talk more or contact Aub Coote (03 52411605) in the
SAAA. He is an experienced tailwheel instructor with KR2 knowledge.

Cheers

Subject: KR>Limitations on Crew weight

> Dear All,
> I have a query regarding maximum weight for the pilot and crew on a KR2. I
am an instructor in Australia and one of my students recently bought a KR2
and wants me to teach him to fly it. On examination of the Aust Flight
Manual, it states that there is a maximum weght limit of 107kgs. That does
not seem feasible for a two seat sideby side airplane.
> It is powered by a 68hp Limbach engine.
