Unless you will be flying from very short runways, lift producing flaps are not necessary. However, drag for the landing approach is critical , IMHO. If you want flaps, build them to produce drag also for the landing approach. A simple speed brake will suffice for drag. There really is no need to try to combine the two unless you are looking for an aeronautical / mechanical challenge. 600 hour with speed brake only. Larry Flesner
