++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I'd suggest you wait on buying avionics until the airplane is finished. However, if you want them now, I've been using the JRC (or JHP) 520 nav/com for about $250 if you shop around. I use a battery eliminator(sold at A.S.) and plug into aircraft power and use a good external antenna. It is a 5 watt unit and I get a range of 50 miles easily when airborne. You can see my setup at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32133949/IMG_8619.JPG My 2 place intercom plugs into the top of the radio and is located behind my seat to keep headset cords out of my lap. I've been using the IFLY 720 for several years now and consider it top of the line. Visit their web page. They have a more expensive IFLY 740 out now but claim it to be the most sunlight readable in the industry. I'm guessing someone you know has one. Check it out. Larry Flesner
