Dean, I've got some drawings of Lycoming mounts which seem to use combinations anywhere from 1/2" .049, to 7/8" .058 wall tubing. Probably can use 1/2" .049 for a VW on a KR and be safe. Bump it to 5/8" .049 if you want to add in some safety factor.
