Yep, there's no substitute for real-world testing, and Marty has certainly done that with his KR2. Also, analyze the scenario at http://www.krnet.org/mvn2008/080921256.jpg. This is really all you need to know about these spars! This was at the 2008 MVN KR Gathering, and a lot of us watched. It was amazing how far the spars bent before the aft web failed, and even then the spars still worked. During normal flight, the spars don't visibly flex at all, as a datapoint. There's an Austrian KR builder who load tested his spars with sandbags. I think his website is now gone, but those photos would be interesting as well.
