Who "advertised" anything? I posted what I see as risky terms of paying in
advance for a currently nonexistant product. That was responding to info on
Yamaha and Motus engine options, plus a PSRU someone is making for the Yamaha.
I honestly did not see any "advertising", just info sharing.
Meanwhile, I have spent this evening developing a spreadsheet of engine
choices, including weights, specs, and so on. They range in power from 60HP to
180HP and in weight from 120 to 225lbs.
The original KR1 had a small VW Type 1 engine. In a few years, those were being
enlarged with bigger cylinders and longer stroke reground cranks. Crank
breakage caused forged cranks and other mods to come into the mix. Now, it
appears there are three makers of VW derivative engines available, with
displacement from 1600 to 2300 cc, and one with a turbo option. Those makers
are Great Plains, AeroVee, and Revmaster. Personally, I have a Jabiru 2200 on
my Avid Flyer, which I may use on my upcoming KR1 project.
Additional engines which may or may not be a candidate include:
Rotax 912/912ULSHKS 700e and TurboYamaha RX1 and GenesisThis upcoming "American
V4"Jabiru 2200/3300Corvair - 3 sizes up to 3000cc

And who knows what else.
They also range in cost from a few thousand to build your own VW based basic
engine, through 20 thousand for a Rotax 912ULS.

One confusing things is the differences between the three VW engine suppliers.
AeroVee seems to call for much lower octane (90) than the others (96 ot AvGas).
If I donty use the Jabiru, I'm leaning toward an aerovee turbo, to normalize at
altitude. When I flew my Avid over the Rockies, it got a little anemic from the
thin air. Takeoff runs were also surprisingly long at high elev airports. A
turbocharger fixes that and you get the double benefit of the less resistance
of thin air, plus the normalized power.
