I've toyed with this idea too, and I'm wondering why pitot tubes go straight down and have a 90-degree bend. If the tubes came forth at a 45 degree angle and then bent slightly to be parallel an inch or so from the end, wouldn't this have significantly less drag? And if so, why aren't they all that way?
