The burn marks should be pretty much superficial. Once removed, the wood should take the glue without a problem. "Good" sandpaper will be one of the cheaper items you'll purchase on your project. High quality sandpaper will last longer than the slight increase in cost over the cheap stuff. Larry Flesner
