I guess that depends on your version of "scratch built".  I assume you are 
not talking about scratch building the engine, tires, instruments, and that 
sort of thing, but those items can be scrounged and are not peculiar to the 
KR.  Other than that kind of stuff, that's exactly how I built mine, as do 
many others. I did not build the canopy, as that is something that requires 
some experience, but it's fairly straight-forward to flat wrap a wind screen 
and side windows.

If you know you're doing you can probably get the wings off in an hour, and 
back on in 1.5 to 2 hours, working by yourself.   Having help reduces the 
time almost proportionally.  A large factor is how your wing gap seals are 
attached. The last ones I removed were siliconed in place, and it took about 
three hours!

I'll let the Aussies like Matheson and Martindale chime in on Australian 
KRs.  There are quite a few there flying and in progress...
