A few more thoughts on the KR Gathering. Dan Heath deserves a lot of credit for all the work he's put into his plane and how nicely it turned out, but there were several other excellent KRs that I'm sure were close competition. This one's a record, in that the KR2Ss out-numbered the KR2s for the first time that I know of. Pilots were Jeff Scott, Larry Flesner, Russ Barnett, Brad Stone, and Dan Heath.
There were at least two new builders at the Gathering, Paul Visk and Mike Simmons, and both are very welcome additions to the community. Edward Spyker brought his entire family this year. His three young daughters were a delight to all. It was pointed out at the Banquet that Chino is adjacent to some serious airspace (see http://vfrmap.com/?type=vfrc&lat=33.975&lon=-117.636&zoom=10 , and zoom in to the center two clicks). Assuming we can all read a sectional, it looks perfectly navigable. The field is tower controlled, but I would think they would allow some measure of flying activity, given that it's an EAA and warbird hotbed. Even if we couldn't fly at all, it wouldn't have been much different from this year's MVN Gathering, yet we still had a great time and accomplished a lot of good things. I'll let Steve tell us more about the airport. One more thing...everybody agrees that MVN is the perfect place to hold the KR Gathering. It's just we need a little fresh air and scenery on occasion. Combine that with a west coast trip and meeting other KR builders and pilots, and now you've got an adventure on your hands! What's not to like about that?
