I made it to Mt Vernon this evening (Wednesday). This is not a air tale so
abandon now while you have a chance!
We left home around 6am thinking this is an early start for us. We started
north, things didn't seem right but kept plugging along. Made it about 6 miles
or so to a fuel station, but look at that! Yep an almost flat tire when I went
to the other side of my truck. No wonder things didn't seem quite right. Mt
Vernon and flat tires go hand in hand for me. I just don't get it.
I plugged in my tiny cigarette lighter air pump and it started working on that
giant tire. After a while it seemed to have almost filled the tire to the flat
stage so I decided after all that time consuming mess to break out the big
hydraulic jacks and get serious with wheel removal and exchange for the spare.
I then drove near by to a tire place for repair. I was surprised to find they
wouldn't be open for another hour. Imagine that, me the first one there, the
first one in line but I didn't want to wait in line for an hour so to save time
I headed northeast towards Texarkana and Mt Vernon. I stopped 60 miles away for
tire repair and spare exchange. Had them inflate all my trailer and truck tires
to just above proper pressures. Back on the road and I couldn't believe how
well this rig rolled now. I couldn't believe Obama was right about that!?
Anyway everything went fine except the occasional shock awake arm slap I
received from my wife when she caught me napping while driving which happened
more than i cared for. I always manage to keep my rig between the two ditches
or road rumble grooves so what's up with all the excitement? I don't think
shotgun passengers should be so judgmental or abusive to those of us who do all
the roadwork!
Anyone with me on this?
I did wonder how it all worked out so well while she was napping? I would have
awakened her (the shotgun keep awake person) if I hadn't been napping myself
but it did save me a few shock awake arm slaps!
Bottom line, we pulled into Mt Vernon around 9pm, quick trip for a deep cycle
battery, then to airport to park, level and plug up with Eric Pitts help.
Sitting here now unwinding and wondering how many of you I am going to get to
see.
I know I'm not going to see you Jones. I told you to manage your help better
(your kids and wife) and you could be here. Dagnabit maybe next year you will
listen to me. LOL
Come on now you guys, load up and get on over here and keep it between clouds
or ditches getting here.
