Pondering while waiting for the snow storm
Well I have an unusual situation with my O-200 in that it has had an STC to put a rear case on it to eliminate the starter and generator.? I have decided to rebuild the engine as-is and deal with the starter and generator issue by adding a lycoming flywheel to the front of the engine and use the lycoming starter and pulley on the rear of the flywheel to run an alternator.? Well as luck would have it I was surfing the net and came across an airboat page as I often do when searching for O-200 info.? In this case it seems that some of the airboat guys are using an old style starter/generator on their engines.? Not O-200 engines but it got me to thinking.? Why not use this setup on an O-200, VW or Corvair??
