I saw this bug too. But (as a dumb user that I am), it wouldn't have occured to 
me that
this was something I needed to disable because the other person's client didn't
do the right thing :/ I thought it was just some bug in kopete. What do other 
jabber clients
(like e.g. psi) do? Do they have sending notification enabled by default? If 
not,
what about not having it enabled by default in kopete either?
