Title:
Boot Failure with Kernel 6.11.0-17-generic on Dell Inspiron 15

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Dear Ubuntu Development Team,

I am writing to report a critical issue encountered after updating to
kernel version 6.11.0-17-generic on my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. Post-
update, the system fails to boot, displaying a black screen with the
Dell logo. However, booting with the previous kernel version,
6.8.0-53-generic, allows the system to function normally.

  System Information:

      Device: Dell Inspiron 15
      Processor: Intel Core i7
      Memory: 16 GB RAM
      Storage: 512 GB NVMe SSD
      Operating System: Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS
      Current Kernel (Functional): 6.8.0-53-generic
      Problematic Kernel: 6.11.0-17-generic

  Steps to Reproduce:

Update the system, which includes upgrading to kernel 6.11.0-17-generic.
      Restart the computer.
Observe the system failing to boot, remaining on a black screen with the
Dell logo.

  Additional Observations:

Accessing the GRUB menu and selecting the previous kernel version
(6.8.0-53-generic) allows the system to boot and operate without issues.
System logs indicate a successful firmware update prior to the issue:
02/24/2025 23:54:44 Firmware update is successful
02/24/2025 23:49:43 Time-of-day not set - please run SETUP program
02/24/2025 23:49:43 Alert! Memory error occurred.
The problematic kernel (6.11.0-17-generic) is marked with the status "iF"
in the package list, suggesting an incomplete installation.

  Troubleshooting Attempts:

Verified BIOS settings, ensuring the SATA operation is set to AHCI/NVMe.
Disabled Secure Boot in the BIOS.
Attempted to reinstall the problematic kernel, which did not resolve the
issue.
Removed potentially conflicting modules (backport-iwlwifi-dkms and
amdgpu-dkms), followed by a kernel reinstallation, without success.

Temporary Workaround: Currently, I am booting the system using the
previous kernel version (6.8.0-53-generic) to maintain functionality.

Request for Assistance: I seek guidance on resolving this boot issue
with kernel 6.11.0-17-generic. Any insights or recommendations to
address this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  Best regards,
  Lenny
