I've done some extensive debugging with the reporter on this.

It's important to note two things:

1. BIOS Setup isn't affected
2. GRUB shell isn't affected

Which suggests it is kernel, possibly ACPI table, related.

We've done a lot of testing with various i8042.XXXX options including
adding debug output. Logs will follow. Those show 0x4e is being send by
a keyboard interrupt several times a second once the i8042 has been
initialised.

Title:
i8042 generating thousands of spurious keypress interrupts

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
i8042 generating thousands of spurious keypress interrupts

I am having an issue where the + key is repeating in all text fields
when I am logged in and before logged in. Seems to happen as soon as
I get to any login screen command line or GUI too. I don't think this
happens before then but could be wrong. This is annoying but seems to
also have stopped a few times but will come back out of the blue.

Beyond that, I have popped the key off and cleaned under there with no
luck. I have also used the mainline kernel and still having issues.
