As you might know, we are currently in the middle of a big refactoring
and the latest code is in the refactoring_timeline branch.
Have you already setup a development environment ?
I would not recommend touching any timeline related issue since it is
currently undergoing many changes. The audio recording feature could be
an interesting challenge ( https://phabricator.kde.org/T9292 ), but
maybe not as a first step.
I also just added a simple task related to proxy clips:

Otherwise is there any part of Kdenlive that motivates you don't
