I'd appreciate when people who write here speak for themselves and for themselves only unless authorized by others to vote for them.
I don't think anybody claims to be an elected representative of some group here or being entitled to speak for someone else. Notice the title of Lucy's initial message: "A call for reflection". I think the intention was nothing more than wanting to make people reflect this change, as the title says. However, we do have this feature I personally consider outstanding, making a difference, and above all being really convenient and handy (@Konstantin: You did notice Dolphin's nice feature to also select a file with a single click, without pressing a key, by clicking the "+" icon that appears when you hover it? This is the "difference" and "know how" I'm speaking of!). If you don't enable it by default but mimic what the others do, new users won't even notice this but keep doing what they always did. Thus my proposal, acceding Lucy, to present this by default. This, Martin, is only my very personal opinion, without any research, prove or numbers. Any it may or may not represent a majority of our users. I however don't think it would be very meaningful to do a survey about this. A new user coming from Windows asked if he wants to select files by single-clicking them and open them by double-clicking them will of course state he wants to do it this way, because he always did. But may the scholars argue about this.
