This posting of bugreports to mailinglists is often seen as unnecessary, and unfair since you're bringing attention to your pet bugs, which disadvantages others' pet bugs.
As a user who filed a considerable number of bugs along the years, I have to say that I don't find it unfair, nor I believe it disadvantages other's pet bugs, including mine. Particularly in this case, the specific bug which has been mentioned is orthogonal to the real discussion, which is the effectiveness of the bug report process. And this discussion should be had.
Speaking from personal experience, I have filed bugs in the past which have been left open for years. These aren't bug reports marked as unconfirmed and left to whiter away unnoticed. These are bugs which were marked as "new", where a discussion has been had where other users have participated and still have been left open for years. The oldest bug reports which I filed and have been left opened the longest date back from 2005. This means these bugs have been left opened for almost 7 years. And I repeat, these are bugs which have been marked as "new", not the ones which were left as unconfirmed.
So, it's clear that KDE's bug report, particularly the way it is managed, suffers from problems which can't be ignored, and this is the best medium to hold this discussion. After all, if not here then how would we tackle this issue? By filing a bug report?
