            Bug ID: 481069
Summary: With framework version 6 the option to execute
commands as part of notifications seems gone
    Classification: Frameworks and Libraries
           Product: frameworks-knotifications
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: openSUSE
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: grave
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
          Reporter: flossy-...@online.de
                CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Comparing
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/knotifications/-/tree/kf5/src?ref_type=heads
with
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/knotifications/-/tree/master/src?ref_type=heads
I notice that »notifybyexecute« is missing.

I suspect that this implies the plan to drop this functionality.

I consider this a severe degradation of usability and strongly object:
So-called "user exits", i.e. an option for the power user to establish
sophisticated workflows have always been the hallmark of the unixoid ecosystem
in general and KDE especially.

There is a multitude of use-cases:
* start a video-conferencing client a few minutes before a meeting
* start more complex set-ups like a VPN and a collaboration platform before a
meeting
* change the desktop activity suiting to the notification at hand
* trigger actions upon connection of specific media
* trigger actions when a specific WLAN becomes available or is lost (e.g.
locking screen)
* trigger actions when a specific bluetooth device becomes available or is lost
(e.g. alarms, locking screen, etc.)

On a general note I consider it very unfortunate when such fundamental, long
available functionality is silently scratched without any prior effort to find
out about sophisticated usage. Long-term KDE users like me – around a quarter
of a century! – tend to have a lot of sophisticated customization others might
not imagine in their wildest dreams. It is *not respectful* to thoughtlessly
break long-time users environments!

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. compare the named source code repositories

OBSERVED RESULT
Loss of the functionality »notifybyexecute«

EXPECTED RESULT
Preservation of the functionality »notifybyexecute«
