What I'm encountering is the opposite situation to what the original report describes: I normally work on a 1920x1080p external monitor, buy when I unplug it and switch to my 1366x768p laptop screen, maximized windows are actually larger than my screen. Since this also happens with horizontally maximized windows (see previous comment), the window controls are out of reach!
