Dear all, I don't want to add confusion to this issue, but just give my opinion
as a user.
I agree with @Nate that it is somewhat confusing to have different icons for
the Kwin task switcher and the Plasma taskbar.
But I agree with others that the app-provided icon should be used and that apps
can fix it if it has issues.
So instead of modifying Kwin, my proposition would be to modify the Plasma
taskbar.
Different icons for an app (e.g., gimp) could be regrouped under the .desktop
icon of the app in the taskbar.
But hovering onto the .desktop icon of the taskbar, the various windows of the
app could appear with their app-id icon super-imposed.
This way, we would have the best of both worlds, with app-id icons still used
but connected to the .desktop icons.
Let me know if you think it would be an acceptable solution or if it would have
issues.
