It sounds a bit like the `spectacle` process is secretly still open in the
background even when it's main window is not visible. Can you check that?
If you find that this is the case, can you try to terminate its process
(`killall spectacle` in a terminal window should do it) and then try the global
shortcut again and see if it does what you expect?
