The GDPR is not about preventing the processing of personal data. It is about having to have a lawful basis for doing so. By the way, I found the article “What Should Software Engineers Know about GDPR?” https://www.infoq.com/articles/gdpr-for-software-devs/ to be very worth reading. It explains the GDPR and its philosophy in a quite understandable way.
