So the logical conclusion is that the crash comes from a graphical "layer" failure of some kind. And I'm afraid we cannot say more, except that this bug report is most probably not a digikam bug and should then be closed. Without your two patches, I experienced crashes on Debian when previewing first a .mov file, which is no longer the case, so I would say this is a good addition.
