Our JPG and PNG loader can load defective images, your images are probably already defective at the beginning. Yes, some of the defective XCF files can still be loaded with Gimp, all programs that are based on the so-called KImageFormat plugin cannot. However, digiKam does not crash with these images under Linux or Windows. Nevertheless, I suspect that the crash with you is related to a defective image.
